Sports

I will try to keep up on sporting events around Daejeon and have information on
events here.  Daejeon has a fairly active sports scene with professional baseball, football (soccer) and volleyball teams.  We don't have basketball but Korea has a fairly competitive professional basketball league that I will have information on for you.  There is even a professional ice hockey league that has a couple teams from Korea, some from Japan and a Chinese team.  I already have links for the baseball and soccer teams and more will follow.

BASEBALL

The Hanwha Eagles are the professional baseball team in Daejeon.  Recently they have been struggling but have had their moments during the year.  Each team in the league is able to have two foreign players on the team.   This year the team has focused on pitchers, which unfortunately have not performed as expected.  However, and night at the ballpark is still better than a root canal at the dentist.  If you have not been to a Korean ballgame it is entertaining win or loose.  Check out the link to the right.

Soccer
The Daejeon Citizen Football Club is the only municipal professional club in Korea. Most teams are corporate owned and operated.  The Citizen have had their moments of success in the past but have struggled in recent years.  Taking in a game is still a great experience and should not be missed.  The season begins in early spring and takes a break in the hot, humid, summer months then picks up again in late summer and continues to early winter.  This link should help you to get information on game schedules, ticket prices and other information.  Check out the link to the right.

Volleyball

Korea is home to a very active professional volleyball league and the Daejeon area is home to teams. This good for sports fans as the winter sports scene in Daejeon gets a little slow.  Games are held at the Hanbat Stadium (next to the baseball stadium) and are usually a lot of fun with all the music and cheerleaders.  The ladies league seems to have shrunk to four teams but the men's side still has seven teams.  Of course I have a link for you that has links to an English site if you have trouble figuring out the schedule in Korean.  I hope get time to take in a match or two.  Check out the link to the right.

Changwan Sports

The city of Changwan is the sports center for the Gyeongnam area. It has professional soccer, baseball and basketball. Here are links to the team websites.
